What is a complimentary orthodontic consultation?

A complimentary consultation is a free visit that determines if you’re a candidate for orthodontic treatment. It’s an easy outpatient procedure used to assess the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

At the end of the visit, your Ensley Orthodontics provider makes personalized treatment recommendations. Depending on your needs, they might suggest traditional braces, orthodontics with Invisalign®, or more specialized treatment with the Carriere® motion appliance.

What does a complimentary consultation involve?

At Ensley Orthodontics, complimentary consultations involve a three-step process:

Step one - Medical and dental history

Your Ensley Orthodontics provider reviews your dental records and asks about your lifestyle, including if you smoke and how often you brush and floss. Then they have you fill out an orthodontic questionnaire. 

Step two - Oral exam and imaging

Your orthodontist completes a comprehensive oral exam. They check for cavities and gum disease, assess the alignment of your teeth and jaw, and order digital X-rays to check for underlying issues, like bone loss. Your orthodontist also takes digital photos to use as a reference.

If you have gingivitis or tooth decay, your orthodontist treats those issues first, before moving forward with orthodontics.

Step three - Initial treatment plan

If you have crowded or crooked teeth or a misaligned jaw, you qualify for orthodontic treatment. Your Ensley Orthodontics provider develops a personalized care plan that helps straighten your teeth and improve your oral health.

The type of orthodontic treatment that will most benefit you depends on the severity of your alignment issues and personal goals.

What should I bring to my complimentary consultation?

To get the most out of your complimentary consultation at Ensley Orthodontics, bring the following information:

• Dental insurance card
• Names of the prescription medications, supplements, and vitamins you take
• Names and contact information of dentists you’ve recently visited
• Questions or concerns you have about the alignment of your teeth and jaw
• Results from any recent medical tests or screenings, like bloodwork

Try to arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment so you have plenty of time to fill out the new patient paperwork. 

How long does a complimentary orthodontic consultation take?

Most complimentary orthodontic consultations take 45 minutes to an hour, but they may take longer. Ensley Orthodontics recommends setting aside at least two full hours, so you can feel relaxed and not worry about the time.
